Following CDB Leasing, BoCOM Leasing, China's largest ship finance leasing company, has ordered a large number of Ultramax bulk carriers. Bulk carrier market seems to be repeating the "hot" container ship market.


Bocom Leasing is said to have placed an order for eight 64,000 DWT bulk carriers at CoSCO Shipping Heavy Industries in Zhoushan, and the order was signed before the National Day holiday, sources said. The new vessels will be designed by Zhoushan CoSCO Shipping Heavy Industries and comply with the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase iii standard. Each of the new vessels costs about $31 million to $32 million, with a total price of $256 million for the eight vessels. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2023.


Similarly, CDB Leasing announced on Sept. 30 that it had signed a purchase agreement with New Ocean Shipbuilding for nine 60,000-dwT bulk carriers worth $261 million at a cost of about $29 million each.

Since last year, in the face of the impact of the epidemic, BOCOM Leasing has vigorously promoted a new development pattern in which the domestic major cycle plays the main role and the domestic and international double cycles promote each other. In April last year, BoCOM Leasing teamed up with energy giant Shell to build a total of 12 120,000 DWT LNG-powered LR2 tankers at Shanghai waigaoqiao Shipbuilding and Guangzhou Shipbuilding International for a contract worth more than 4.5 billion yuan, the world's largest merchant shipping order at the time.

In December last year, BoCOM Leasing teamed up with China Shipping, the world's second largest container shipping company, to order six of the world's largest 24000TEU ultra-large container ships at hudong Zhonghua shipyard, Jiangnan Shipbuilding and Yangtze River Shipbuilding Group.


As of the end of last year, BOCOM Leasing had nearly 400 vessels of various types and had more than 60 partners worldwide, covering 20 countries and regions.
